A Look Into The Heart

There is a look on the face of anyone who competes.  Champions have one.  Losers have one.  Everyone in between has one.  A look says more than words and speaks deeper.  In only a few seconds, it can communicate courage and confidence or complacency and cowardice.  Your look must show your courage to fight and your confidence in your training.  I expect greatness; there is no room for anything else.  I expect your eyes to reveal the heart of a champion and the determination of a soul unwilling to accept anything less than victory.

The look of a champion is focused and fighting.  There is an anxiety in their eyes that can only be settled with competition.  They want to fight.  Their will to win cannot be extinguished.  Champions do not back down.  One glance into their eyes and it is obvious they are ready for whatever challenge may be ahead.  Your look must communicate your willingness to give everything you have on every single day. It is not only on meet days, but everyday.  Everyday, I am looking into your eyes to see where your heart is and if you are ready for greatness.  I am not looking for talent. Talent is only part of what makes a champion.  I am looking for heart; true champions have heart.  I want to look into your eyes and see the heart of a champion.

The look you have tells me what I need to know.  Already, this team has given me a glimpse into the heart of who you are becoming.  You know what we are capable of doing as a team and there is something special that I see in you this season.  There is hunger in your eyes.  In your eyes, I see hope, dedication and a willingness to go after greatness with everything you have.  You are hungry for success and what I see is not just hunger for success, but I see a willingness to do what it takes to satisfy that hunger.  You have begun to believe and I can see it in your eyes.
